All About Pumpkins!
I read about this activity at My Montessori Journey - when I saw that I already owned the book, I knew I could adapt this project for my five year old son. We just love this book!
Pick a Pumpkin
Pick-a, Pick-a pumpkin from the pile
We can make his eyes and a great big smile!
Pick-a pick-a pumpkin round and clean
Then we’ll be ready for Halloween.
Halloween! Halloween!
Then we’ll be ready for Halloween!
You can make up your own tune to the song, or even just use it as a little poem - there is something about it that kids really enjoy.I read the book, then went back over the life cycle of the pumpkin. Then, I gave my son the sheets I had downloaded and printed from here and asked him to color them, cut them, and arrange them in order on the black 12x12 paper. Here's what he came up with - I was really proud of him!
Tomorrow we will be cutting and putting together the mini book of "Five Little Pumpkins" - I still remember this rhyme from my childhood! Happy Pumpkins! This post is linked to the Hip Homeschool Hop - I love this Tuesday link-up! Go see what everyone is up to this week.

I love it! We're all about the pumpkins this week as well -- I think I'll add this in after we dissect a pumpkin tomorrow. :)

We're carving pumpkins tomorrow. Pumpkin treats of any kind are a hit with me. LOVE those orange beauties.

Great ideas! I printed out the life cycle of pumpkins and the mini book! Thank you!
Lol Mary, we used the same exact sequence pattern squares as you....I love them.
Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday. I commented with the books I bought at Relevant and the authors. I hope you see something that peaks your interest. They are all awesome and I will review them as i finish them. 8) Have a great day!

How sweet! We own that book too, one of the many packed up and put away for my grandchildren as our own have outgrown it. Stopped by from Hip Homeschool Hop to say hi today!
Thanks for this post. I've just printed out copies of the minibook for my boys to do today! Love the idea and the poem!
What a fun lesson! My kids always loved the pumpkin lessons when they were little.
Looks like fun! Makes me want some pumpkin muffins or something! :)
What a cute idea! Too bad my kids are too old for it.
Thanks for stopping by my blog & commenting. Yes, yes, do combine age groups for history, Bible & even science (in elementary grades at least). It will make your life so much easier! You can read the same books - even have your older child read to the younger ones - and work on the same projects, but just require a bit more work from your older child. You'll find you have more time to do the fun projects (i.e., unit studies) that way, too.
Thanks for sharing! Stopping by from the Hip Homeschool Hop!
Stopping by from the HHH. We love this book and Five Little Pumpkins! This is such a fun time of year!
