Cultivating a Child's Heart for Music

 

It's all well and good to have the resources for teaching your children about music appreciation, but does that really cultivate a LOVE of music in their hearts?

I know that in my own life, music was always valued and present in my family's life. I grew up hearing music, making music, and appreciating music. I am forever grateful to my parents for this gift.

Listen to Music that Tells a Story ~ Sorcerer's Apprentice Lesson (with a Maestro Classics Giveaway)

 

One of our favorite ways to easily enjoy music is to learn about stories in music.

I remember wondering where composers could get an idea for a piece of music. It wasn't until I was older that I realized they could be inspired by great stories. 

One of the very best examples of this is The Sorcerer's Apprentice, by Paul Dukas (based on the original poem by Goethe).

While I am a musician, I have spoken with plenty of non musicians who tell me they just don't have the KNOWLEDGE of where to start with their children.
