Learn About Martin Luther: Resources and Free Copywork

Reformation Day is Friday, October 31.

This marks the day in 1517 that German monk, Martin Luthe,r posted his 95 Theses on the door of All Saints' Church (also known as the "Castle Church") in Wittenberg, sparking the Protestant Reformation.

Since we are Lutheran, we celebrate the Reformation on the Sunday before October 31. We wear red, sing A Mighty Fortress is Our God, and (in typical Lutheran fashion) - have a potluck!

It is important, however, that our children understand the significance of this event in church history - and how it changed the way so many people viewed the church.

Please don't let Reformation Day pass without your children having at least a basic understanding of this event in the life of the church.

Who Was Martin Luther?

This video gives a concise background of Martin Luther and the posting of the 95 Theses:

Studying Martin Luther With Children

Four books in particular are wonderful when studying Martin Luther.

Martin Luther: A Man Who Changed The World - a picture book - but geared for slightly older children. This gives an accurate picture of Martin's life.

Martin Luther: What Should I Do? - a book for young readers that is a nice biography

Spy for the Night Riders: Martin Luther - a Trail Blazer chapter book - full of action and adventure!

And... of course - if you want to see what Martin Luther said about Christianity:

Martin Luther's Small Catechism: a free download for Kindle - this catechism is the six chief parts of the Christian doctrine

Music and Martin Luther

Many famous hymns have been written by Martin Luther.  Perhaps the most famous is "A Mighty Fortress is Our God".

Luther's Famous Quotes

Martin Luther was known for his wise quotes. I have taken 10 of them and created cursive and print copywork for you to download.

(You could play the above hymn while your child is copying -- just a thought!)
