Just Like Percy Jackson - but BETTER!

I'm blessed to have children that love to read. Sometimes, however, this can be a challenge, because I need to make sure they are reading QUALITY literature.
My almost 11 year old's latest read is Spirit Fighter, by Jerel Law. It is the first in the Son of Angels series published by Thomas Nelson. After she completed this book I asked her for her honest evaluation. Her exact words were:
"It was just like Percy Jackson, but BETTER, because it was about being Christian."
That's an A+ in my book.
Sometimes I feel as if we are at spiritual war each and every day of our lives, and it was wonderful to find books (in addition to the Bible!) that equip my child to handle a war against her faith.

Jonah Stone has always thought of himself as average, but in seventh grade he learns a fascinating family secret, and his world turns upside down. Jonah's mom is nephilim, the daughter of a human and a fallen angel, which makes Jonah one-quarter angel. When his mom is kidnapped by fallen angels, it's up to Jonah and his sister Eliza to rescue her. Guided by prayer and a guardian angel, Jonah and Eliza embark on an epic adventure through the streets of New York and come to understand that God plans in ways they never could have imagined.
The story is based on scripture in the book of Genesis.
To learn more about the book you can also watch the video trailer.
We always look forward to our monthly package from Tommy Nelson with books for review. This one was a KEEPER. My daughter has already asked me to order the rest of them in the series (when they are released!).
What is your middle grades child reading these days? Do you have any good recommendations for me?
If you'd like to have a copy of this book for your own child(ren), just leave me a comment telling me your child's favorite type of literature!
This giveaway will be open until Sunday, May 6 at midnight.

My Sam likes anything in an Ancient, Medieval or mythical setting. James likes books with technical details. Quentin likes The Boxcar Children. Katie likes the Warriors series (about cats.)Alex likes Thomas the Tank Engine (still.)
All three of mine like being read Harry potter

This one sounds good!
Abby prefers historical fiction and Molly prefers animal stories. We like to read adventure or fantasy books together, so I can read it out loud...makes it more exciting that way:)
My second grader will read anything and everything. Currently, her favorite book is The Alley. Right now she's reading The Hobbit.
My son loves all books right now...but especially chapter books with adventure stories. As well as Dr. Seuss. He love the rhythm of words so he adores things that rhyme or have songs in them.
We are reading boxcar children right now.
This one looks really good! Thanks for posting about it. My kids' favorite series has been The Redwall-books by Brian Jacques. They also have enjoyed the Warrior books, Left Behind kids books, Harry Potters & Narnia, to name a few.
We loved the Percy Jackson series and Peter and the Starcatchers. Right now we switched gears and are reading aloud Anne of Green Gables. Would love to read Spirit Fighter.
Blessings
Diane
My children love for us to read Percy Jackson and Harry Potter to them. They understand that the books aren't real and that its part of someones imagination.
My oldest son loves reading about sports -fiction and non-fiction. He is currently reading "Playing with Purpose" about three Christian football players. My youngest loves animals and science fiction. I think he would love this series.

Our oldest is devouring the American Girl series, right now. I think she'd enjoy this adventure!
I have one who love the Hunger Games, one who loves anything she can get her hands on, and another who would rather get a root canal than read. The youngest likes Dr. Seuss.
My girls LOVE Percy Jackson, so I'm sure this will be a hit with them! (The movie, however, was gaggy.) Even if we don't win the giveaway, I'm putting this series on our list!
