Three Things I Love This Thursday
I have been wanting to share some fun little things we are using in our homeschool which I LOVE, so I thought I'd pick three of them today. The awesome thing is that one is FREE and one is $.99 (the other is $9.63 - oops!).
KANOODLE!
I bought this game at a toy store last weekend. Wow! The kids have played it a lot and it's fun for adults, too... it is awesome for spatial awareness and logical thinking. It can be alone or with two people, and it has levels from very easy to VERY hard. I've left it on the coffee table and when people walk by they play. Very fun. I found it for $9.63 on Amazon (see link above) ~ I was a sucker and paid $13.99 at the toy store. In my opinion, it is worth it.
is one of the most valuable apps we have purchased for our iPad at a whopping $.99! It's a fun geography game for all ages - teaching state location, capitals, trivia, etc... You can get the lite version for free to see if you like it. It was voted the Best iPad Kids App. of 2010 (how did I miss it in 2010?!?)

by Howard Pyle - you can read this book FREE online. It is a book of 24 (one for each hour of the day) beautifully crafted fairy tales and exquisite illustrations. Pyle wrote and illustrated this book in 1887 and it really is a gem. Both of my children are enjoying this read-aloud. We are reading it on our iPad (I cannot tell you, by the way, how beneficial the iPad is to our homeschool... much more so than a laptop, in my opinion).

Don't feel bad about supporting a small local business by buying the game there. It's likely that Amazon has the game at just 20% above cost, or that Amazon was able to purchase the game for a lower price than the toy store.
Local brick-and-mortars provide a service to the community and sometimes that is worth paying a little more for. As one myself, I never intentionally overcharge for a product because I KNOW my customers go home to search for the same thing at a lower price from an internet vendor. It is very tough.
Check out the 3/50 Project for more about the value of local businesses.
Now I'm off to get that state app...
Cheryl, you are so wise! Like the app?
My girls love Stack the States. I requested that they put it on their itouch but then just let it sit there until they discovered it on their own. I loved the conversation in the back of my car about different states and the help they gave each other answering the questions.
I would love to hear why your ipad is beneficial. My oldest desperately wants one but I keep holding off not sure of why we would need one when I have my mac laptop. I am also toying with the idea of getting one for my husband for his commute so he does not have to carry his bulky laptop. I would really love your insight!
This kind of reminds me of the Scrambled States of America books and game.
I like the description of the App. Seeing this Apple app (and some of their others) makes me wish I had an Apple product. However, my husband, who makes the tech decisions, doesn't care for the Apple items.
