Why We Use Saxon Math

This is a comprehensive post about Saxon Math, with a video from me at the end. I hope you find the information helpful as you make math decisions in your homeschool.

Math can be an area that causes great frustration and confusion (for adults and children) in many homeschools.

This was true in my home.  We waffled between math programs in our first few years of homeschooling, trying different textbooks, living math, and other approaches.

It doesn't need to be difficult, however, with ample resources and assistance available.

Curriculum Plans for Seventh Grade

Seventh grade in our homeschool is bringing about major CHANGES.

We are joining a Classical Conversations community and my seventh grader will be a part of the Challenge A program.  Anna will meet with a small group of her peers and a tutor one day each week for 8 hours. She will take part in dialectic discussions and receive all of her assignments during this time.

I'm very excited about this change - but it also brings about some unknowns for all of us.

Plans for a Rigorous Year

This will be our fourth official year of homeschooling.

We have spent the past three years discovering our style, getting to know each other better, and learning SO MUCH.

Most of our curriculum centers around a Classical Education philosophy, with a few pieces reflecting a belief in Charlotte Mason and also Interest Led Learning.

I hesitate to call us "Eclectic" this year.... my goal is to move towards a more strictly classical homeschool.

We are believers in Interest Led learning at certain points, but I've found that in order to be sure my children are learning everything my husband and I deem important, a rigorous, classical approach works best.
