Fun With LEGO Mini Figures - Create Your Own Mini Fig Printable

The LEGO obsession continues in our home.
I've written about LEGO organization and now I'm working on some LEGO printable activities. Thank goodness for my LEGO Pinterest board, where I can keep all the wonderful ideas I find organized!
In our homeschool co-op this semester I am teaching a LEGO class to twelve second and third grade children. What fun we are having!
This week is going to be "Mini-Fig Week". They will each be receiving their very own Series 5 minifigure and we will also be playing a game with our minifigures. In addition, I will give them this handy dandy Create Your Own Mini-Fig printable to color.
My daughter had the GREAT idea of laminating this and then the kids can create mini-figs over and over with dry-erase markers. Very smart.
There are so many fun things to do with LEGO Mini Figures:
- Keep a bucket of nothing but Mini Figure parts handy and let your child build while you read aloud... it's amazing the Medieval Knights, Railroad Workers, Samuraii, and other historical characters they will create!
- Use the printable I have made for you and let your child create their own mini figure. Then, write a story about this character.
- Create dramas with mini figures.
- Get a copy of the LEGO Ideas Book and your child will be busy for a lifetime!
- Download a simple Stop Motion app for the iPad or iPod Touch and let your child experiment with this. Then, watch this video (made by a young man in our local homeschool group! Talk about inspiration!)
Please enjoy this Create Your Own Mini Figure Printable I've made. Special thanks go out to Dutch Micro Figures for allowing me to use and modify this image for your personal use.
I don't see the LEGO phase waning any time soon, and I'm so glad. I have never seen a toy that is more fun, educational, and thought provoking.
Do you live with a LEGO maniac? What's their favorite thing to do with LEGOS?

I keep wanting my son to get into Legos. He is mildly interested. Perhaps that is because his momma is lego challenged and can't help him. :-)
You could also use playdoh on the laminated mini fig to decorate him
My oldest is 19 and will still play lego's with his younger siblings that are 14, 8 and 6. Yes, we truly do love lego's in this house! Thanks for sharing the printable with us!
I live with a couple of Lego maniacs :) I love them most of the time... is there any greater pain than stepping on a Lego barefoot? :)
pinned and shared - this is great!
I didn't know that legos could make me cry! I think I might borrow this video!
thank you so much for sharing the printable and that awesome lego SCC video ! so sweet !!
So cute! I have to pin this. I am gonna let him do these today for fun:)
My 10 year old son loves Legos. He just started we just started his own blog. Check it out at http://www.buildinglegoswithchrist.blogspot.com
Thanks for the free printable.
I live with Lego maniacs and can totally relate! This post is wonderful and the video was absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for sharing :)
Thank you so much for this Lego template. My kids are loving it!! We've printed it several times and will continue to use it throughout our curriculum to add art and fun to our lessons. Even my husband has been getting in on the fun and designing Lego characters :)
What great LEGO ideas! I was wondering...are you willing to share the name of the curriculum you use for your LEGO class? I'm certain that many of the boys in our homeschool group would jump at the chance to take such a class.
Thanks!
Yes, I live with a lego maniac and find these tips super helpful as we homeschool! Will print the template soon. Not only does my little boy have his daddy's old legos from when he was a little boy, I found a gallon ziploc bag full of legos at a yard sale last summer for 25 cents! Anyway, I prefer the old legos over the kits they make these days. He makes all kinds of imaginative vehicles...without any direction. I love the way his mind works!
Thanks for sharing!
Funny you asked!
Lego sets were always a part of our household. My 32 year-old son was home this weekend, and he took out the zip-lock bags of sets, and the boxes of the various random pieces sorted by colors. He spent hours in the playroom building a lego city! I got to help and I had so much fun too!
I just also shared this information with my daughter-in-law. As an educator working with children who needed extra help learning, one of the first questions I asked the parents was if their child played with lego. If not, I suggested that as an important activity. I believe it is important for reading, spelling, math, paying attention to detail, fine-motor coordination, creative play.....
The one gift I gave my 4-year-old grandchild this weekend was her first lego set! (She already owns the Duplo sets.)
Thank you!
My son, 5, is a LEGO fan (to put it mildly). So we will definitely be coloring that minifig soon and implementing some of your ideas. Great stuff! Thanks so much.
My son-in-law is doing creative photography with Lego figures. Such fun! You can see them here:
