Homeschool Mother's Journal
In my life this week..... I have finished my first knitting project! Thank you to my friend Karen for teaching me to knit. I'm also feeling very overwhelmed with CLUTTER in my house and I'm trying to tackle one small area at a time. Wish me luck... I'm also feeling the need to blog about a lot more of our homeschool projects, but I just don't have the time.
In our homeschool this week... we learned about mummies! We wrapped a mummy today and put his organ in Canopic jars. What a blast that was. We also made good progress in Math and Grammar, AND we dissected owl pellets at a nature center.
Places we're going and people we're seeing...we had our homeschool co-op on Thursday and that is always so much fun for all of us! We took a field trip to a local nature center and learned all about owls in the state of Georgia.
My favorite thing this week was: sitting quietly each night when the kids were in bed and knitting and talking to my husband. I know - the simple things really make me happy.
What's working/not working for us: Story of the World is definitely WORKING. I love love love reading the chapters with the kids and doing the activities. In general, however, I feel like I've loosened up too much on my children and we need to get back to a lot more structure in the coming weeks.
Homeschool questions/thoughts I have: Do a lot of you homeschooling moms veer off path as much as I do? I can make a plan, but we deviate it from it by the middle of Monday morning!!!
A photo to share: this morning I took the kids to the park first thing... they were the only ones there and got to run and play a long time. It was GOOD for them. I sat quietly by the lake and just enjoyed the solitude.
I hope everyone has a restful weekend!

Just stopping by from The Homeschool Chick to say hi and see how your week was. My children are much older then yours, but one of our fondest memories was when we studied Ancient Egypt and made mummies of our own. We set them outside to dry and wouldn't you know crows appeared from everywhere! There were dozens on our porch trying to peck at the apples and oranges we'd wrapped in muslin cloth. The kids and I were away when the flock appeared but my husband scared most of them away as he pulled into the drive. He called me to laugh and ask what the kids and I were up to. Our poor mummies had peck marks all over- but our project managed to continue. My kids still laugh about that event!
Mary, just thought I would respond to your sweet comment on my blog. I am content to be at home, which is a blessing. I really am thrilled for weeks on end where we have no appointments and can just be home. Having to take everyone out of the house more than once a week is my idea of no fun.
Instead of cabin fever I tend to get really touched out and just want quiet space with no little ones hanging on me. LOL. The best thing my husband does for me at those times is send me to my room or to a nice hot shower. We tease the kids that mommy's being sent to her room because she's grumpy and that I need a nap. ;)
PS> The mummy kit looks like fun, did you like it for the price?
Hi Mary! Thanks for stopping by my blog : )
Congrats on the knitting. What did you make? I love completely a project.
We veer off so often that I am very often reluctant to write down my 'plan' ahead of time. I did the first week of the new year & we did pretty well, but then someone got sick & the second week was off and... I feel I need to do better with making a plan & trying to stick to it.
Hi Mary-thank you for your comment at my blog! I struggle with the clutter around here! Congrats on your knitting accomplishment! All I know how to make are scarves-if I don't make any mistakes! LOL Loved reading about all your fun school projects. Owl pellets are so gross, but also so cool to do!
Veering off the path? I major in that! You're not alone :).
Your photo is so peaceful looking. So nice to meet you. Holly
"Do a lot of you homeschooling moms veer off path as much as I do? I can make a plan, but we deviate it from it by the middle of Monday morning!!!" YES!! All the time! I make wonderful plans...that's the easy part. Sticking to the plan is the nearly impossible part for me! But we always get done, so I guess getting there is more important than HOW we get there! :-)
I'm stopping over from The Homeschool Chick. My first "Homeschool Mother's Journal"...love this meme! I PLAN to do it weekly. We'll see how THAT goes!
Have a blessed Sunday!
I also like Story of the World, and I definitely veer off the path!
