Not Growing Weary
Monday, September 20, 2010 at 9:29PM This morning when I sat down to read email I came across a wonderful post at Classical Chaos. It spoke to me, because I have been struggling a bit recently with feeling so worn down, under appreciated, and in general just like everyone takes me for granted and expects me to do everything. I know these thoughts are destructive and I try to not feel like the martyr, but it's really difficult sometimes to not have a pity party. If you have a minute, read the post and really let it sink it. It's one of the best homeschooling posts I've read in a long time.
I took out my journal and copied the end verse from the post:
"Do not grow weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Galatians 6:9
You would have thought this verse might have changed my outlook, and it did until after lunch. Things were great until that time. I don't really know what happened, but it started with someone being disobedient, then some sassy talk, and finally it ended up with me completely frustrated and fantasizing about sending at least one of my children to public school! I know you've had those thoughts, too - right?
I still have the memories fresh in my mind of what it WAS like to have the kids in school all day. Wow, I had a clean, organized house. I was up to date on scrapbooks, toodled ed around to my favorite stores, and could work out any time during the day. Life has changed, and everyone is still adjusting. Don't get me wrong, I know we are on the right path, but it's definitely not the EASIEST path right now. Then again, life's best rewards are never come by easily.
Now that the house is quiet and the angels are in bed I can reflect back upon this verse from Galatians and know that what we are doing is indeed worthwhile. It definitely isn't easy, but we were never promised easy, were we? I'll start again tomorrow. It is a new day and I know God's promises are new each morning.

Mary, hitting that brick wall? It's tough! So many Moms hit it....with homeschool, it seems like a wall that encompasses the entire world. It has truly brougth me closer to Jesus...because if I focus on me or the way my family doesn't 'appreciate' me...I want to stay there. But, breaking through it is awesome. This brick wall....you have found the power to break it down. That is so awesome that you turned to scripture! Now, you're ready. What you have acheived so far, will be nothing compared to what you are about to achieve. Blessings! The brick wall...hits all of us....it's part of the homeschool growing process, I think! Blessings!!...and know, your family does appreciate you....they have 'walls', too!
Hopefully it wasn't a brick wall - just a bad day. I think every now and then a little breakdown from mom can't hurt... makes everyone appreciate us a little more. This morning Miss B had breakfast all ready when I came downstairs (cereal and bagels), and the kids have been so sweet today. Sometimes I think our kids believe we are superhuman and don't have feelings!
