It's Always Good to Hear Some Affirmation

Today I was on the telephone with a friend of mine - our children are the same ages and are very good friends. She has known me when my children were in public school and she supported me in my decision to homeschool. Her children both attend public school.

As she was chatting with me (from her quiet, peaceful home with no children whining about schoolwork in the background!) she told me how much she admired my decision to homeschool and how she envied the close relationship I had with my children. Wow. I told her how much it meant to hear those words, but I don't know if she really GETS how much it meant to me.

We homeschool for the sake of our children and for the sake of our families. We don't do it to gain approval from others. When we get that approval, however, it sure feels good.

So true Mary. As much as we work in our homes and with our children, it's nice to hear "it" once and a while. We were in a furniture store a few weeks ago and Zachary was comparing prices of couches...stating out loud the difference in prices and how much this one was over that one, pretty big numbers to subtract. The rep for the store commented on how smart he was, asked what grade he was in. I did not respond and just asked her a question about furniture, then later she commented again on him and I said we homeschool and he a lover of math. she said, oh that explains it, it shows how intelligent he is and how much you love him. Made me feel good!

I feel that it is a gift from God when your friends tell you things like that and give you that warm fuzzy feeling.
