Learning About The Civil War

 
 

I'm a firm believer in learning "evolving" on its own. 

Our study of the Civil War has been a beautiful example of Interest Led Learning. 

Yes, the Civil War is on our history "schedule" this year, but the specifics of studying it are not. I like to leave those specifics up to my children. My job is to provide a variety of resources, field trip opportunities, and inspiration so they can soak in as much about the subject as possible.

This is why I consider myself more of a homeschool GUIDE than a TEACHER.

A Birthday, Building, Concerts & Christmas

 

 

It had been a wonderful day. 

My beautiful boy turned ten. (How did THAT happen?)

We started the day with a pancake breakfast, followed by presents, playing, lunch with a great buddy, and then spending the afternoon with said buddy! 

Grant and I were driving home to cap off the evening with roasting hot dogs by the fire pit and birthday cake, the sun had just set. It was that very peaceful time of day - my favorite time of day, actually.

Serving With Teens: Operation Christmas Child

 

Serving at the Operation Christmas Child processing center with a group of 10 teens last week was such a joy!

Long ago, when I did some student teaching in a middle school setting I swore I would NEVER enjoy working with teenagers! Funny how God laughs when we make plans, because I'm thoroughly enjoying these young people and the unique gifts they have to offer. 

Students from our Classical Conversations Challenge community volunteered for a three hour shift at the Atlanta processing center. We met for dinner first and then made the hour long journey to the processing center.
