Today I want to participate in Dewey's Showcase at The Stay at Home Librarian. Check out her site...you will love it! If you are working on the fifty states with your homeschooler, then you have to download the song "Fifty Nifty United States" originally by Ray Charles. Take a minute to listen to the song, and when you are done, you can go to the website and download the .mp3 file and also the lyrics. Look on the right side of the page and you will see "download the .mp3 file".

Of course, you can print the lyrics out and just let your kids learn it by singing along. When I used to teach in the schools I would make a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet with each state's name typed in bold letters and pass out to the children in the class. When your state was sung you had to hold up your sheet. Now, this might be hard in a homeschool class of 2 or 3, but if you have a big family it could be fun! To this day, I can sing all 50 states in alphabetical order with great speed. Now.... how many people can say that?!!?!
